Carnarvon Traders

This is a local history site I run which covers all aspects of life in the Welsh town of Caernarfon, or to use the old spellings, Carnarvon & Caernarvon.

Situated in North West Wales, Caernarfon was at one time a seaport of some repute, exporting slate all over the world, and its mariners were well-known for their seacraft. Since the early 20th Century the export of slate has been consigned to the history books and the town has become reliant on the tourist trade, the town's main selling point being its mediaeval castle, built by Edward I, and the Segontium Roman fort.
